The Nazis sent Fanny’s Majdan, Czechoslovakia family to Auschwitz where she was selected by Dr. Mengele for slave labor at Weiswasser and later exchanged by the Swedish Red Cross for trucks and ammo. Max Lesser from Czerwinsk, Poland, was taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where all the women and girls in his family were murdered the day they arrived in 1942. In 1945, Max escaped the Auschwitz death march to Mauthausen concentration camp.  They met on a train after the war.
